Douglas County Habitat for Humanity is a volunteer-driven organization. We welcome people from all walks of life to join us as we build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with God and families in need. Though the vast majorities have no construction experience or building skills, volunteers are involved in most phases of construction. By working side-by-side with the family who will live in the house, our volunteers experience for themselves the joy created when a family is able to realize their dream of home ownership.
Habitat volunteers contribute more than muscle. Creativity, strategy, and technical skills are among the many invaluable traits volunteers bring to the organization. With a minimal staff, Douglas County Habitat for Humanity depends upon volunteer committees for support with projects like Family Selection, Family Support, and Construction.
We invite volunteers to help us build, serve on committees, and help with special projects that benefit the organization. Time commitments vary. As a volunteer for Douglas County Habitat for Humanity, you can choose to volunteer as little or as often as you would like. All positions are a tremendous help that result helping responsible families in need become homeowners.
Douglas County Habitat for Humanity offers opportunities for you to help with all aspects of home building. You do not need to be an expert in construction to help out on a work site. There are many tasks that require only a willingness to learn and work with others. On-site construction work is the most popular of Habitat's volunteer opportunities. We make every effort to incorporate all willing volunteers regardless of skill level. All volunteers on the construction site must be at least 14 years of age or older
For every volunteer hour spent at a construction site, 15 volunteer hours are spent behind the scenes, making this new home possible. Volunteer committees assist in designing homes, selecting families, soliciting donations, organizing special events, coordinating public and media relations, and helping in the office. No matter what your particular skills, Douglas County Habitat can use your help!
In order to volunteer as a group, the group leader will need to contact DCHFH at volunteer@douglascountyhabitat.org . She will discuss the possibility and timeframe of scheduling your group to come out and work on site.
