Habitat Month 2007

Douglas County Habitat for Humanity (DCHFH) was building much more than homes in March. With an astounding list of events, March, 2007 was been designated “Habitat Month” in celebration of sixteen years of service and building community partnerships striving to eliminate substandard housing in Douglas County.

Habitat Month kicked off on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at 7:30 PM with a Plea for Prayer asking religious institutions and the community at large for a moment of prayer that we continue to put faith and love into action. In addition to the normally scheduled Saturday house construction days (March 3, 10, and 17 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM), other events includee:

Dress Down Day(s) (Contact Habitat to schedule a date) Organizations were asked to name a day to dress down and benefit Habitat. Call today to get started!

 

Playground Perk-up 3/3 9:00 AM at Keith Park on Thompson St in North Douglasville. Join Habitat in painting, planting, and sprucing up the park in our Phase I building neighborhood.

Board of Directors Open House 3/7 6:00 PM at Douglas County Chamber of Commerce. Join us to meet our wonderful board members and learn more about Habitat's organization and direction. Please RSVP to Tavia Pauling by phone or email tpauling@douglascounty

Lowe's HabiTOT Playhouses 3/10 9:00 AM was built at the Douglasville Blvd store (raffled 3/24). The playhouses was constructed by youth volunteers under the direction. HabiTot accomplished three main goals which are to teach youth construction skills, promote Habitat for Humanity and Youth Build and to raise money to support Habitat's programs.

 

Prospective Homeowner Orientation was held 3/14 6:30 PM at Hawthorne Center on Malone Street; Applications are available via the web site and at public locations.

 

 

Pot ‘o Gold Tool Drive 3/17 all day collected such items as gloves, power tools, and landscaping equipment that helped provide needed resources for house building.

 

Rent-a-Worker 3/24 8:30 AM volunteers did yard work to benefit Habitat presented by Keep Douglasville Beautiful.

 

We Love Our Volunteers 3/24 3:30 PM appreciation ice cream social was presented by Lowe's Douglasville and Ben & Jerry's; HabiTOT Playhouse raffle winners were selected.

 

Run Amber Run! 3/25 8:30 AM
Former staff member Amber Wilburn made a run for the cause in the Georgia ING 1/2 marathon. People supported her by donating 13 dollars for 13 miles!
